a more colorful life

As I get older and I grow more exclusive with my Naked palettes, my eyeshadow has become increasingly predictable. I'll do the same colors in the same place for days at a time. The last two days, I didn't even wear eyeshadow if you can believe it. But I recently found myself reminiscing about what I used to love about eyeshadow: color experiments! And I've made a point of incorporating more color into my shadow looks, even if it's not every day.
I think it's important to mix color with neutrals. Choose either the lid or the crease to make colorful, and stick with toned down shades everywhere else.
Blues and purples have been my hues of choice lately. I find they're easy to blend with neutral browns and grays.
My two favorite palettes for adding colors are, unfortunately, both discontinued. One is a random Ulta brand holiday palette I got at a deep discount after Christmas two years ago. The other is the Urban Decay XX Vice Ltd Reloaded, which I love so much. (I've actually seen a few on Poshmark* if you're looking.)
What tricks do you use to keep your eyeshadow looks interesting? Do you have certain colors you gravitate toward? I'd love to get inspiration from you!
