feeling boxed in

I subscribe to a few monthly beauty boxes. For awhile now, I've been wondering if they're worth continuing to pay for. When I started each of the subscriptions, I definitely believed they were worth the price. But lately I've felt like the quality of the boxes has decreased. I don't know if that's actually the case or if maybe the novelty of the boxes has just worn off. I figure the best way to objectively figure that out is to start tracking what comes in the boxes each month. If you want to read along, you can figure out if the boxes are worth subscribing to yourself.

Walmart Beauty Box

This is the cheapest of the three boxes I subscribe to, at $5 a box. This is actually a seasonal box, sent out about once a quarter. The website describes the subscription this way
Each new season brings different product needs and a reason to refresh your beauty cabinet. In your Walmart Beauty Box, you’ll find sample beauty products and tips on how to use those and other items sold at Walmart and on Walmart.com.
Here's my latest box...

In addition to the products, the box came with $18 worth of coupons. I'm not great at using coupons, but I want to be.
In case you can't see from the picture, the box contained a full-size Rimmel Lash Accelerator mascara in black, a multi-use sample of Dove Go Fresh body wash in mandarin and tire flower scent, a multi-use sample of Neutrogena Healthy Skin Boosters facial cleanser, a multi-use sample of Lady Gaga's Fame Black Liquid perfume, multi-use samples of Schwarzkopf Essence Ultime shampoo and conditioner, a single-use sample of Nivea in-shower body lotion, a single-use sample of Garnier Ultra-lift Miracle Sleeping Cream, and a single-use sample of Maybelline Fit Me! matte + powerless foundation in ivory.

Ipsy

Next up is the Ipsy Glam Bag, unique in its inclusion of a different makeup bag each month. The bag costs $10. Ipsy claims it allows you to "Sample 4-5 amazing beauty products tailored to you in a collectible bag."

Here's what I got this month:

In the floral makeup bag was a full-size NYX butter lipstick in pops, a multi-use sample of Coolway glow oil treatment, a Crown Brush oval concealer brush, a full-size Chella ivory lace highlighter, and Pixi eyeshadow duo in Apricot Glow.

Finally, for $12 a month I get Beauty Box Five. The website explains:
Every month we'll send you a mix of makeup, beauty accessories, hair, skincare, fragrance, body, and nail products that we can't get enough of. Our secret? We share products that really work, so you'll receive luxury, drugstore, niche, eco-conscious, and even vegan brands.
Here's a look inside...
A full-size Scandalous by Nanacoco Waterproof Mascara in black, full-size Caught Out Loud by Nanacoco lipgloss in The Lift, multi-use sample of Elite Therapeutics body creme in rosemary eucalyptus, single-use samples of Eslor cleanser and lifting mask, and a full-size Styli-Style line & seal twist eyeliner in orchid.

The Beauty Box Five comes with the most full-sized products, as it should for the increased price. My problem is that the products often come in colors I wouldn't choose. The Walmart Beauty Box seems to come with a lot for $5, but so many of the products are single-use samples, which I always think are difficult to evaluate. And the Ipsy bag, obviously, comes with the bag, which I love. I use them as change purses, to carry jewelry when traveling, and to easily transfer smaller items between purses. But like Beauty Box 5, I often don't love the colors of the products.

So, that's where my evaluation will start. I'll try and keep track of what comes in these boxes each month until I decide if I should unsubscribe from one or more of the boxes.

Do you subscribe to any of these boxes? What do you think? Are there other subscription services I should try out? If you have a referral code you want me to use, leave a comment!
