my acne solutions + dr. brandt giveaway

My sister and I were recently talking about the appropriate age for girls to start wearing makeup.  This got us talking about when our mom first let us use makeup and what products we were allowed to use.  I (somewhat bitterly) realized that I never wore foundation until I graduated high school, because I really didn't have problems with blemishes of any sort.  I never experienced your typical teenage acne.  For me, acne hit my freshman year of college.  It came out of the blue, and it took me a long time to figure out how to deal with it.  While my acne problem has in no way disappeared, I've developed a pretty good routine for keeping it under control.  I thought I'd share it with you.

I use the word "routine" loosely, because I've actually found the key is to regularly change up my skincare.  My skin seems to grow immune to certain products, making them lose their effectiveness over time.  I've found two main products that work, and I switch from one to the other when I feel my skin start to break out.

Product No. 1 is the single best face wash I have come across: Murad Clarifying Cleanser. I use it night and day, and I love it.  About once a month, I'll notice that my face isn't feeling quite as "clarified" as usual, and I switch to Product No. 2, which is actually two products:  Clinique Acne Solutions Cleansing Foam followed by the Clarifying Lotion (I would use the Clearing Moisturizer as well, but I'm crazy allergic to benzoyl peroxide).  When I'm on the Clinique side of my rotation, I only use those products at night.  Depending on how sensitive your skin is, though, you could potentially use the cleanser morning and night.

Finally, a few days after switching from one product to the other, I always enjoy a session with Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion.  This sloughs off any newly dried or dead skin and allows the product to stay effective longer.  Plus, it leaves my face feeling so darn smooth!

It can be hard to commit to new skincare products, especially quality ones that can be quite expensive.  I know that kept me from trying out the Microdermabrasion for far too long.  To help you out, De Nouveau Review is hosting a giveaway of one limited edition 3.5 oz Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion (that's 67% more product than you'll find in most stores)! Find out how to win this prize--valued at $125--below.
